Philbrick Square

On July 7, 2024, the intersection of Court and Main Streets became known as Officer Norman Philbrick Square in honor of Auburn Police Officer Norman Philbrick.
On July 7, 1949, Officer Philbrick was directing traffic at the scene of a major structure fire when he was struck and tragically killed following the collision of two fire trucks at the intersection of Main Street and Court Street. Officer Philbrick had served with the Auburn Police Department for two years and was a beloved member of the police force. He was survived by his wife and two beautiful daughters. On the 75th anniversary of this tragic accident, the City of Auburn and Auburn Police Department renamed the intersection and unveiled a memorial in honor of this fallen hero.
