The department is located at 121 Mill Street and is open Mondays from 10:00AM - 4:00PM, and Tuesday through Friday from 8:30AM to 4:00PM. The office is closed weekdays from noon to 1:00PM.

General Assistance

The City of Auburn operates a General Assistance Program that assists eligible residents, for a limited period, who are unable to provide basic necessities essential to maintain themselves or their families. Eligibility is determined according to income and other guidelines which are established by Maine state statutes, City Ordinance and Department of Health and Human Services policy.

Community Development

Auburn’s Community Development programing offers various public service, public infrastructure, and hazard reduction programs. These are funded in part by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnership (HOME), and the Office of Lead Hazard Control funds provided by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD).

Public Health

Community health and wellness initiatives are overseen by the Public Health office. The city recognizes that there are many variables that directly impact the health of our citizens, neighborhoods, businesses, and community here in Auburn. Individual health and wellness are not simply the result of everyday individual choices such as what to eat, how much to exercise, and taking the advice of a trusted health care professional.

Business Services

Auburn’s business services include business financing, resources, and incentives. These services and information are provided on an as-available basis.
